Many store-bought cleaners are strong, but they also bring heavy fragrances and chemicals into your home. If you want things to feel fresh without that sharp smell, a few low-toxic swaps can help.
For daily surface cleaning, a simple mix of mild liquid soap and water in a spray bottle works for most tables, counters and tiles. You don’t always need something harsh.
For glass and mirrors, diluted vinegar and water can clean fingerprints and smudges well. Wipe with a microfibre cloth to avoid streaks.
Baking soda is helpful for scrubbing sinks, tiles and stubborn spots without scratching. Sprinkle a little, add water, scrub, and rinse.
If you prefer ready-made options, look for cleaners labelled low-VOC or plant-based. They may cost a bit more, so use them where they matter most—especially in closed spaces like bathrooms or kids’ rooms.
You don’t have to throw out everything overnight. Just start replacing one or two products at a time. Over months, your cleaning shelf and air will both feel lighter.
