Building-Level Security: How Residents Can Work Together to Keep the Society Safer

No matter how careful you are inside your flat, building-level security is a team effort. When residents cooperate, the whole society becomes harder to target.

First, treat the main gate as the real front door. Encourage proper visitor logging—delivery people, service staff, taxis, all should be noted. It’s not about being rude; it’s about knowing who is inside shared space.

Use common WhatsApp groups or notice boards wisely. If someone notices repeated suspicious behaviour—like unknown people loitering or following residents—they should feel comfortable alerting others calmly.

Don’t prop open side gates or doors “for convenience.” Shortcuts for residents are shortcuts for intruders too.

Rotate or supervise security staff properly. If residents occasionally interact with guards, show appreciation and also share concerns, staff usually stay more alert.

Agree on basic package and delivery rules—like leaving items at the gate or with security when possible, instead of unknown people wandering through corridors.

Safety works best when it’s a culture, not just a few cameras on walls.
